Penguin Plunge Cancelled |
The Penguin Plunge, scheduled for Saturday, February 28, has been cancelled. The decision follows ongoing safety concerns in the aftermath of Blizzard Calvin, along with another potential storm forecasted for later this week. Sponsored by the Ellington Police and Ellington Resident State Troopers, the event supports Special Olympics Connecticut and brings together participants, volunteers, and community members each year for a meaningful cause. Given the current conditions and anticipated weather impacts, moving forward with the plunge would not allow for a safe experience for everyone involved. Organizers are actively working with Special Olympics Connecticut to reschedule the Penguin Plunge, and a new date will be announced once confirmed. The Ellington Police and Ellington Resident State Troopers appreciate the community’s continued support, flexibility, and commitment, and look forward to hosting the event under safer conditions. |

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Ellington Veterans “A Salute in Banners” program!
These banners, displayed in Arbor Park and in front of Ellington Town Hall, serve as a beautiful and meaningful tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country. Last year’s display was truly inspiring, honoring Ellington veterans and sharing their stories with the entire community.
If you have a veteran you would like to recognize, now is the time to apply.
Let’s continue this special tradition of honoring our local heroes and showing our gratitude for their service.
For application details, please contact Ellington Human Services (860) 870-3128

Tucked away at 12 Church Street the Ellington Chuck Wagon Restaurant is a true hometown favorite. Open daily from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, this quaint, friendly restaurant has become a staple in the community and a go-to spot for breakfast and lunch. Locals rave about the Eggs Benedict, house-made corned beef hash, and thick-cut bacon, while the Reuben omelet and crispy home fries keep regulars coming back for more. Lunch offerings include hearty burgers, subs, fried seafood, and daily soup specials — all served in generous portions at wallet-friendly prices.
