Ellington’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently took time to celebrate the people who answer the call when it matters most. At its annual awards banquet, EVAC honored members for years of service, dedication, and outstanding contributions to emergency medical care in the community.

The evening highlighted both long-serving volunteers and those recognized for exceptional efforts over the past year, underscoring the commitment and teamwork behind Ellington’s emergency response. Leaders also reflected on the challenges and accomplishments of the year, offering a snapshot of the vital role EVAC plays in keeping residents safe.

Getting around town isn’t the same for everyone — and the state wants to hear directly from Ellington residents about what’s working and what isn’t.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is hosting a local focus group to gather feedback on transportation options, barriers, and needs, with a particular emphasis on seniors, people with disabilities, and those who rely on public or shared transportation.

Topics include road safety, walkability, transit access, and gaps in existing services. Community input will help shape future transportation planning and improvements. Residents are encouraged to participate and share their experiences.

Center School student Myra Ruparel is being recognized for her outstanding leadership and civic engagement after being named Kid Governor for Center School and selected as a finalist for Connecticut Kid Governor.

Although she was not elected governor statewide, Myra was chosen as one of just seven students across Connecticut to serve on the Connecticut Kid Governor’s Cabinet at the Old State House.

She was celebrated for her achievements at the November Board of Education meeting.

In this important role, Myra will represent herself, her family, Center School, and the Town of Ellington with pride and dedication. Congratulations to Myra on this impressive accomplishment.

Step back in time with a unique chocolate experience at Hall Memorial Library! On Monday, February 9 at 6:00 PM, Hall Memorial Library in conjunction with the Ellington Historical Society, will host a Pewter Pot Chocolate Program where visitors can learn how chocolate was made and enjoyed in early America.

Presented in period attire, master chocolatiers will demonstrate traditional techniques using classic spice blends like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger — key flavors that made colonial chocolate a luxurious treat.

Attendees will have the chance to sample chocolate and can purchase products, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Space is limited — register today!
